Alum Marcus Greene Is a Catcher To Watch in Padres’ Farm System
An article in the San Diego Union-Tribune on September 18, 2017, focused on five catchers that the Padres are considering bringing up to the majors from their farm team. One is NMJC alum Marcus Greene, Jr, currently catching with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
The article states: “Greene is an offensive-minded catcher with a cannon arm serving as his best asset on defense. Originally a 16th-round pick out of New Mexico Junior College, Greene joined the Padres in the deal that sent off Will Venable to Texas after his 2015 Tommy John surgery. The Southern California native managed a measly .600 OPS in 49 games in 2016, was a breakout star in the Australian Baseball League over the winter, where his six homers were one off the lead. Then in his first full year in the Padres organization, Greene set career-highs in homers, RBIs, total bases (131), hits (77) and runs scores.”
Greene is 23, 5’11” and 195 pounds.
