Cave named NJCAA Second-Team All-American
Grieger named NJCAA Honorable Mention
HOBBS, N.M. — New Mexico Junior College outfielder Jacy Cave was named NJCAA Second-Team All-American while Thunderbird shortstop Branden Grieger was named NJCAA Honorable Mention when the teams were released Monday.
Cave was second in the nation and led the Western Junior College Athletic Conference with a .472 average. He was also second in the WJCAC and fourth in the nation in home runs (20), second in the WJCAC and seventh in the nation in RBI (82) and second in the WJCAC and seventh in the NJCAA in slugging percentage (.887).
Cave, a Farmington native and Piedra Vista grad, has signed to play baseball at the University of Utah next season.
Grieger hit .463 (second in the WJCAC and third in the nation) for NMJC this season with seven home runs, five triples, 16 doubles, 50 RBI and 14 stolen bases for the T-Birds.
Grieger, a Simi Valley, Calif., native, turned it up during WJCAC play, hitting a scorching .533 with six home runs, 39 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 36 games.
Grieger is signed to play at New Mexico State University next season.
Cave and Grieger are the fourth and fifth NMJC players to be named to an All-American team in the last five seasons – joining infielder Preston Marsh (2014 - honorable mention), pitcher Cameron Smith (2013 - second team) and outfielder Omar Gomez (2013 - third team).
