The Thunderbirds topped Northeastern Junior College 11-3 to sweep the series 3-0.
Northeastern struck first in the second inning scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead. NMJC got on the board in the bottom of the second following a triple by Jorge De Los Santos that scored a run. The T-Birds tacked on another run in the bottom of the third with a solo homer by Brian Guzman to trail 3-2.
The T-Birds scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth behind an RBI single from De Los Santos, an RBI single by Guzman, a sac fly by Julius Ramirez, and an RBI single from Lane Arroyos to make the score 6-3 NMJC. The T-Birds closed the game out with five runs in the sixth inning to run rule the Plainsmen for the third straight game.
Monty Bognar earned the start on the mound in Game 3. Bognar went two innings allowing three hits, three runs, and zero earned runs. Ricardo Rojas pitched two innings in relief allowing one hit to earn the win for the T-Birds.
Right fielder Brian Guzman was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Guzman hit a homer in the third and a double in the sixth.
Designated hitter Lane Arroyos went 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Second baseman Jorge De Los Santos was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Thunderbirds ended the day with nine hits. NMJC finished the weekend with 26 extra base hits and nine homers. The T-Birds move to 3-0 on the season.
