NMJC Partners with Ampere Design on Press Box Addition at Ray Birmingham Field
New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) is proud to announce a strategic partnership with industry-leading Ampere Design (ampyourdesign.com) to develop a press box addition at Ray Birmingham Field, home of the Thunderbird baseball program.
The project will focus on enhancing the overall functionality and media capabilities with a new press box addition, while also improving amenities for game day operations, coaching staff, media, players, and fans. Exterior stadium upgrades include a new façade to enhance the overall aesthetics and first impression for the stadium.
"Ray Birmingham Field is one of the premier junior college baseball venues in the country," said Trent Gareis, Principal Director of Project Delivery at Ampere. "We're excited to work alongside NMJC to create a press box and façade that reflects the excellence of the program and supports a top-tier game day experience. It will give a fresh identity to the entire stadium and program."
This expansion is part of a broader commitment by New Mexico Junior College to invest in facilities that elevate the student-athlete experience, increase fan engagement, and continue the tradition of excellence associated with Thunderbird baseball.
"This is an exciting step for NMJC baseball and for the continued growth of our athletic facilities," NMJC Director of Athletics Deron Clark said. "Ampere brings deep experience in designing for junior colleges and baseball programs, and their creative, cost-conscious approach makes them a great fit for this project."
The Ampere team collaborated with NMJC to evaluate existing site conditions, establish design goals, and develop a concept for the new press box and facade that aligns with the college's vision and budget.
"Athletic facilities are a key part of the student experience, and Ray Birmingham Field is a point of pride not just for the college, but for the entire Hobbs community," added Clark. "This project ensures we continue to raise the bar for what baseball can look like at the junior college level."
The project is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2026 season.
