Thunderbirds Solid at National Preview
Andrew Ni Leads Tbirds
The #5 ranked NMJC men's golf team finished 9th (15 teams) at the NJCAA National Championship Preview last weekend in Lubbock, TX. The Tbirds fired team rounds of 298 (+10), 293 (+5) and 300 (+12) during the 54 hole event held at The Rawls Course at Texas Tech. Freshman Andrew Ni led the team individually finishing tied for 18th following rounds of 72 (E), 73 (+1), 73 (+1). Ni is currently ranked 16th in the nation (Golfstat) individually.
Sophomore Ryan Cox finished tied for 36th with rounds of 76 (+4), 74 (+2), 73 (+1). Cox is currently ranked 18th in the nation following 3 events. Also competing for the Tbirds were Freshman Zhane Chan who finished tied for 42nd (76, 72, 77), Freshman Harvey Hill who finished tied for 47th (74, 75, 77) and Freshman Tyler Cox who finished tied for 69th (79, 75, 78).
Head Coach James Berry commented on his team's performance. "We played solid tee to green, but didn't make nearly enough putts to compete for the win. All of our scores were between 72 and 79 on a difficult course, so the guys kept it in play all three rounds. We need to better around the greens to compete at the highest level and I know the team is committed to making that improvement."
The Tbirds travel to Waco, TX this weekend for the Dr. Pepper Classic hosted by #1 Mclennan Community College.
