NMJC Men and Women Track & Field rank Top 5 in NJCAA's first Track & Field Rating Index of the year
The New Year is off to a successful start for the T-Birds. Both men and women track and field teams are starting off the first NJCAA Track & Field Rating Index of the year in the top 5. Ratings were released on Wednesday January 29 by the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Association.
The Women sit at number one the first week. For the Lady T-Birds Flomena Asekol, Demisha Roswell, Rushelee Jones, Victoria Villanueva, and Susan Francis lead the team in multiple events. Asekol being a double national Leader in the mile and the 1,000, Roswell leading in hurdles, Jones in high jump, Vilanueva in pole vault, and Frances in long jump and the 4x400 relay.
The men sit in spot number 4. This is the first year New Mexico Junior College has brought back the men's track and field program in over 25 years. The T-Birds have Andrei Romanov, a National leader in the weight throw with a NJCAA all time best of 20.90m.
Both teams will compete this season to receive the Championship title at the NJCAA Nationals in Lynchburg Virginia March 6-7.
