NMJC (M-T&F) Adds 8 New National Qualifiers
The NMJC men's track & field team competed at the Masked Rider Open in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday, March 26.
The T-Birds had eight new individual national qualifiers, one improved qualifier, and one relay national qualifier.
Aaron Jerry reached the national standard in the 400m with a time of 46.00. Jehiel Smikle was a national qualifier in the 110mH with a finish of 14.35.
Freshman Rayen Chiha was one of two T-Birds to reach the national qualifying standard in the 800m. Chiha ran a 1:50.41 in the 800m and Elmehdi Bouchouata qualified with a 1:52.95.
Distance runner Addiso Bitew was back on the track this week in the 5000m. The freshman ran a 15:09.64 to nationally qualify in the race. Alexandre Fablet also met the national standard in the 5000m running a 15:10.91.
Over on the field side, Samuel Ospina vaulted his way to a 4.89m clearance to qualify for nationals in the pole vault.
Indoor long jump national champion Bastien Cadeot picked up where he left off and leapt to a national mark of 7.55m.
LeBron James was the lone improved qualifier in Lubbock. The javelin thrower improved on his previous national mark by 2.72m with a throw of 71.40m
The Thunderbird 4x400m team of Aaron Jerry, Luiz Santos, David Nyamufarira, and Benjamin Nsiah qualified for the outdoor mile relay with a time of 3:10.12.
The T-Birds next meet is Friday, April 3 in Levelland, Texas at the SPC Alumni Elite Invite.
