T-Bird (M-T&F) Breaks 2 School Records in Canyon
The T-Bird men's track & field team competed at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi in Canyon, Texas on April 9-10.
The Thunderbirds had 13 new individual national qualifiers, nine improved qualifiers, and one improved relay qualifier.
The field side had a huge weekend at West Texas A&M.
Bastien Cadeot broke the school record in the long jump with a leap of 8.08m. The improved qualifying mark bests Khybah Dawson's jump of 7.84m. Cadeot is No. 1 in the NJCAA for the event.
Pavashe Muzokomba recorded an all-conditions school record in the long jump with an 8.10m leap. The jump was with 5.1 on the wind reading.
Luiz Santos obliterated the school record in the decathlon with a score of 7515. The score is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA for the decathlon. Current T-Bird Jonathan Da Silva held the record with a score of 6776.
Samuel Ospina was an improved qualifier in the pole vault by .37m with a clearance of 5.26m. The sophomore is No. 2 in the pole vault standings for JUCO via his indoor clearance.
Thrower Samuel Puustinen threw 58.71m in the hammer throw to improve on his previous national mark by .94m. He is No. 3 in the NJCAA for the event.
Sprinter David Nyamufarira nationally qualified in the 100m with a time of 10.07. He slides into the No. 3 spot in the NJCAA. Nyamufarira also ran a 20.53 in the 200m to improve on his previous national qualifying time by .56 seconds. The sophomore is No. 6 in the NJCAA for the event.
Carlos Brown Jr. improved on his previous qualifying time by .18 seconds in the 100m with a finish of 10.14. The run is No. 6 in the NJCAA for the event. Brown was a national qualifier in the 200m with a time of 20.52 to move himself to No. 4 in the NJCAA for the event.
Samalie Farrington exceeded the national standard in the 100m with a time of 10.34. The finish ranks him No. 21 in the NJCAA.
Benjamin Nsiah clocked a 20.51 in the 200m which nationally qualified him in the event. Nsiah is now ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA for the event. Nsiah is also No. 3 in the NJCAA for the 400m after nationally qualifying in the event for outdoors with a 45.64.
Mid distance runner Alexandre Fablet ran a 3:48.76 in the 1500m to nationally qualify and rank No. 3 in the NJCAA.
Raheim Scott competed in the 400m nationally qualifying for outdoors with a 46.32 to rank No. 12 in JUCO.
Distance runner Addiso Bitew is No. 1 in the NJCAA for the 10,000m after nationally qualifying with a time of 31:07.36. His teammate Emmanuel Kimaiyo was in the same race recording a 31:57.45 to come in at No. 6 in the NJCAA.
Ronald Jecky ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA after his 9:41.83 in the 3000m steeplechase.
Hurdler Jehiel Smikle finished the 110mH in 14.28 to improve on his previous qualifying standard by .07 seconds. Smikle is No. 9 in the NJCAA for the event.
The T-Birds had five runners make some noise in the 800m in Canyon. Chiha led the group with a 1:49.44 in the race. The time was an improved qualifier by .97 seconds and is No. 9 in the NJCAA. Romain Toth also improved on his qualifying time by .73 seconds with a finish of 1:51.11. The time is No. 17 in the NJCAA for the event.
Rayane Courtois qualified for nationals for the first time running a 1:51.99 in the 800m. Elmehdi Bouchouata was an improved qualifier by .89 seconds, running a 1:52.06. Erwan Darrieulat was the final 800m qualifier running a 1:53.42.
The 4x100m relay squad of Samalie Farrington, Benjamin Nsiah, David Nyamufarira, and Carlos Brown Jr. ran a 39.61 to improve on their previous national standard by .21 seconds. The finish is No. 1 in JUCO for the event.
