James Breaks Javelin Record for 2nd Straight Week
The T-Bird men's track & field team competed at the Corky Shootout in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday, April 30.
The Thunderbirds had six improved qualifiers, one new individual national qualifier, and one school record broken.
LeBron James is on fire on the field side. The sophomore javelin thrower broke his school record for the second consecutive week with a 75.04m mark. He bested his previous school record by .41m and is still No. 1 in the NJCAA.
James was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week for his performance this week at the Corky Shootout.
Hurdler Jehiel Smikle moved his way into the No. 7 spot in the NJCAA for the 110mH with a finish of 14.11. He was an improver on his national qualifying standard by .17 seconds.
Sprinter Raheim Scott improved on his previous national standard by .21 seconds in the 400m with a finish of 46.11. The time is ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA for the event.
Romain Toth is near top form as he improved on his national qualifying standard in the 800m with a 1:49.93. The time was .15 seconds faster than his last run and is No. 15 in the NJCAA.
Alexandre Fablet is No. 15 in the 5000m JUCO standings with a time of 14:41.81. He was an improved qualifier by 29.10 seconds in Lubbock. Addiso Bitew was the other improved qualifier for the T-Birds in the 5000m. He ran a 14:52.70 in the race to improve by 16.94 seconds and is ranked No. 19 in the NJCAA.
Killian LeBourhis crossed the national standard in the 1500m on Thursday with a time of 3:55.70.
The T-Birds next meet is the NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in Hobbs, NM at Ross Black Track.
