NMJC rodeo starts spring season in Odessa
Lady T-Birds fourth, T-Birds fifth in Southwest Region
HOBBS, N.M. — The New Mexico Junior College men's and women's rodeo teams begin their spring season today at the Odessa College Rodeo at Outback Arena.
NMJC's Devin Wigemyr enters the spring season with team roping partner Cole Wheeler (out of Weatherford College) second in the Southwest Region with 310 points – 190 points out of first.
Other T-Birds looking to move up in the standings this spring are Linden Woods in bareback riding (sits in fifth) and Keely Bonnett in tie-down roping (14th) and steer wrestling.
As for the Lady T-Birds, Kellie Collier is third in barrel racing in the region with 410 points – only 50 points out of first, and will also be competing in breakaway roping.
The top three participants in each event will qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., in June.
The NMJC women are fourth in the region with 495 points while the NMJC men are fifth with 1,005 points. The top two teams out of 15 in the Southwest Region will qualify their entire team to the CNFR.
