Wigemyr takes 12th, Collier 16th at CNFR
NMJC men finish in 39th place as a team
New Mexico Junior College's Devin Wigemyr made it to the short go in team roping and finished 12th while Kellie Collier took 16th in barrel racing at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
Wigemyr, a sophomore from Brooks, Alberta, Canada, and partner Twister Vinson of Western Texas qualified for the short go after an average of 15.2 seconds on two-head after three rounds.
However, Wigemyr and Vinson failed to record a time in the short go (only five of the 12 teams did) and finished in 12th place.
Wigemyr and Vinson did record the second-fasted round of the event during the week as the duo put together a time of 4.8 seconds in the third go to get them the 12th and final spot into the finals.
Sawyer Barham of Coffeyville Community College and Kolton Schmidt of Southeastern Oklahoma State University won the event with a four-head average of 24.2 seconds – 1.4 seconds better than Forrest Fisher of Hill College and Trace Porter of McNeese State University.
Wigemyr earned NMJC 70 team points to help the T-Birds finish in 39th place.
Tarleton State won the men's national championship with 915 points – 80 points better than Panhandle State University.
As for Collier, a freshman from Hereford, Texas, she just missed out on finishing in the top 12 and qualifying for the finals after recording an average of 43.10 seconds in her three rounds.
Collier recorded a 14.52 in the first go, 14.15 in the second go and a 14.43 in the third go.
Places 13-16 were within 0.04 seconds of each other.
Callahan Crossley of Blue Mountain Community College won the title in barrel racing with an average of 56.00 seconds in four rounds – including a 13.72 in the finals.
Crossley edged out teammate Danyelle Williams and Billie Holman of Fresno State, who each had an average of 56.31 seconds.
Blue Mountain won the women's team national title with 517.5 points – beating second-place McNeese State University (420) and third-place Eastern New Mexico University (350).
