Tbirds tie for first at Tech Rodeo
Rodeo shares team title with Tarleton State
Wolfforth, TEXAS -
After struggling mightily at the Sul Ross State and Frank Phillips Rodeos, the NMJC Men's Rodeo Team went all in to finish up the Fall 2015 NIRA/SWR Rodeo season with a bang as they scored 375 points to share the team title at the Texas Tech University Rodeo October 15-17 in Wolforth, TX a the United Supermarket Arena.
Leading the NMJC Men's Team was Wyatt Hayes, header, and Tyce McLeod, heeler. The duo split 4th/5th in the long go with the time of 6.9 sec. and followed up that performance by splitting 1st/3rd in the short go with the time of 7.4 sec. They ended the rodeo by splitting 2nd/3rd in the average.
In saddle bronc riding, NMJC's Preston Burr, continued his strong sophomore campaign by placing 3rd in the long go with a score of 72 points. He then placed 2nd in the short go on Saturday night with a score of 71 points, and split 2nd/3rd in the average with 143 points on two horses.
Sophomore Ed Beardsworth proved he's a force to be reckoned with in steer wrestling as he split 1st/2nd in the long go with a time of 4.5 sec. and then placed 4th in the short go with the time of 5.2 sec., to finish 3rd in the average with the time of 9.7 sec. on two steers.
For the NMJC Women, freshman barrel racer, Shelby Spielman placed 3rd in the long go with a time of 15.79 sec. and 8th in the short go with a time 16.38 sec. She finished and 7th in the average with a time of 32.17 sec. on two runs.
In goat tying Emily Logan (Fr) place 3rd in the long go with the time of 7.7 sec., She then finished in 7th place in the short go with the time of 9.7 sec., and was 7th in the average with the time of 17.40 sec. on two goats.
The Tbirds will take to the practice pen as the teams prepare for the first Spring 2016 NIRA/SWR Rodeo hosted by Odessa College late February.
