Rodeo finishes season strong; Three qualify for CNFR
Bonnett and Tew 2015-16 NIRA/SWR Reserve Champion Team Ropers

Tarleton State University was host to the last NIRA/SWR Rodeo for the 2015-16 college rodeo where eight NMJC Rodeo Men and Women qualified for the short go last Saturday evening.
NMJC freshmen Kory McConnell (header) and Quinton Brandon (heeler) place 3rd in the long go with the time of 6.8 sec., placed 3rd in the short go with the time of 6.8 sec., and placed 2nd in the average with the total time of 13.6 sec. on two steers.
NMJC sophomore Keely Bonnett (heeler) and Casey Tew (header from Weatherford College placed 10th in the long with the time of 10.4 sec., came back to win the short go with the time of 6.2 sec., and ended up 6th in the average with the total time of 16.6 sec., on two steers. These two runs helped them to end up as the 2015-16 NIRA/SWR Reserve Champion Team Ropers.
Tie down roping sophomores King and Hayes made it back to the short go, Cody King split 9th/10th on his long o calf with the time of 9.5 sec., placed 6th in the short go with the time of 9.2 sec., and finished 7th in the average with the time of 18.7 sec. on to head. Wyatt Hayes split 6th/7th in the long go with the time of 9.1 sec., placed 8th in the short go with the time of 10.2 sec., and finished 8th in the average with the time of 19.3 sec. on two head.
Barrel racer Shelby Spielman was the lone women making it back, she placed 10th in the long go with the time of 15.57 sec., placed 8th in the short go with the time of 15.48 sec. and finished 8th in the average with the total time of 31.05 sec., on two runs.
Two other NMJC cowboys made it back to the short go, freshmen J. D. Reed in saddle bronc riding placed 2nd with the score of 71 points, but he was bucked off in the short go. In steer wrestling, Ed Beardsworth in the long go placed 9th with the time of 7.5 sec., but had a NO Time in the short go.
Next up for the following NMJC Rodeo Team members is the CNFR this coming June 12-18, 2016, in Casper, WY. Qualifiers are Keely Bonnett in team roping and Preston Burr in saddle bronc riding. Third member that will be participating will be Wyatt Hayes in tie down roping. Wyatt was voted into this position the Student President for Southwest Region for this 2015-16 rodeo season by his peers last year, which allows him the honor to participate.
