Five NMJC Rodeo Team Member Make It Back to Short Round

NMJC's - Preston Burr Champion Saddle Bronc Rider at Vernon College 2016
Vernon College was host for the third NIRA/SWR Rodeo this past week end in Vernon, TX. Five NMJC Cowboys and a Cowgirl made it back to the short round Saturday evening. Preston Burr and James D. Reed went first and second in saddle bronc riding, Wyatt Hayes in tie down roping, Tyce McLeod in team roping, and Megan Powell in breakaway roping. NMJC's Men's Team finished 2nd with 340 points and Tarleton State Men scored 480 point to earn the Vernon College Rodeo Team Title,
Preston Burr from Stratford, TX earned his first championship of the 2016 college rodeo season in saddle bronc riding. Preston split 1st/3rd in the long go with the score of 75 points, 1st in the short go with the score of 76 points which earned the Vernon College Saddle Bronc Title.
James D. Reed from Spearman, TX also split 1st/3rd in the long go scoring 75 points for his ride, then he scored 72 points in the short go for 2nd place, giving him an aggregate of 147 point, and he finished 2nd in the average.
Wyatt Hayes from Val Marie, SK was 8.5 sec. in the long go on his first calf in tie down roping, Wyatt finished 7th in the short go with the time of 11.5 sec., and place 7th in the average with the total time of 20.00 sec. on two calves.
Megan Powell from Eldorado, TX was the only women to make it back to the short round for the NMJC Women's Team. Megan made it back in breakaway roping by winning the long go round with the blazing time of 1.9 sec., but had a not time in the short go that took her out of the average.
Tyce McLeod from Waldeck, SK was 6.6 sec. in team roping in the long go, with his partner Clay Brownlee (Header) from Texas Tech, but the pair had a no time in the short go taking them out of the average.
NMJC has the week off to get back into the practice pen to prepare for the Clarendon College Rodeo, in Clarendon, Texas, October 13-15, 2016.
