Tee and Tyce McLeod follow in Dad's Footsteps

The Canadian Finals Rodeo is one of Canada's largest rodeo events featuring seven major events including saddle bronc, bareback, tie down roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping and bull riding. The week also features the CCA Novice Finals which take place at 1:00pm daily and will feature Junior Barrel Racing, Junior Steer Riding, Novice Saddle Bronc, Novice Bareback and Novice Bull Riding. The weekend's festivities include the traditional rodeo, trade show, rodeo cabaret and a full weekend of country and western fun.
Scott McLeod of Waldeck, Saskatchewan, seven-time winner of the CCA Finals, is entering his 30th consecutive year competing in the finals in Swift Current. This cowboy has brought up his three sons to follow in his footsteps. Tuftin, 22 years, Tyce, 20 years and Tee, 18 years, are taking after the old man in rodeo passion and talent.
When Tuftin turned 15 years old, his parents, Scott and Tammy McLeod, had a decision to make. "When Tuftin was just 15, Scott and I were like, 'Do we take him? Can he handle it? All the pressure, wins and loses'. He ended up winning Rookie of the year that year (2010)," Tammy smiled when she spoke. "Tyce and Tee are at New Mexico Junior College on a full rodeo scholarship. They are taking their Arts and Sciences. Rodeo is all they've known. They have only competed since 2010, but they have never missed".
The McLeod Family raised up an indoor riding facility, Triple T Arena, and host rope nights every Friday. Scott and Tammy have been together for 25 years and have proudly brought their boys up the cowboy way.
"Tuftin used to rope with Scott then Tee came along ready to compete and he now ropes with Scott. Tufitn and Tyce rope together. When the boys went to college last August, Scott and Tuftin teamed back up," Tammy explained. "I just think it's a pretty big accomplishment that Tyce had such a lead when taking off to college last August. Last year, Tyce qualified for and competed at college finals in Casper, WY. Tee competed at the National High School Rodeo and finished in the top 20 for steer wrestling. He then competed at Canadians in Nanton, AB and won the championship.  All three boys competed in the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo and qualify every year for nationals".
The father-son duo is a powerful force for anyone competing against them. Scott, 51, is otherwise known as the "Anvil" and he has shared his skill with his sons. After years of shadowing his father, Tuftin has carved out his own path in the rodeo world and is turning heads on the circuit. Tuftin is described as a humble and hard-working young man.
"Roping with Dad makes it a lot easier because he's taught me everything I know. We can predict what each other is going to do and know how to help one another," Tuftin explained.
Waldeck has reason to be proud of this rodeo family of star cowboys and will be anxious to see how they finish at the upcoming Finals, October 18-20th.
