NMJC's Spielman and Lee Scholar American Recipients
New Mexico Junior College is proud to announce that two of its rodeo student-athletes, Shelby Spielman and Swaize Lee, received the prestigious Scholar American awards from the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA).
The honor is bestowed on NIRA student members that have earned points at a 2016-2017 NIRA sanctioned rodeo, been in college for more than one term, earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and have been nominated by their rodeo coach.
For Shelby Spielman from Dalhart, TX, this her second time to receive the Scholar American honor, having received the academic honor during her freshman year at New Mexico Junior College, as well as her sophomore year. She graduated with an Associate of Arts degree last spring, and currently is enrolled at Texas Tech University pursuing a degree in Agriculture Business. Shelby is a member Of Texas Tech's Women's Rodeo Team competing in breakaway roping, goat tying and barrel racing.
Swaize Lee from Brownfield, TX, returned to New Mexico Junior College as a sophomore pursuing her Associates in Arts degree. She is considering a future degree in education to become a teacher, and plans to attend Tarleton State University for her future endeavors. She currently competes for the NMJC Women's Rodeo Team in breakaway roping, barrel racing and team roping (header).
