Kyla Kelly Competes in Denver Rodeo All-Star
The New Mexico Junior College women's rodeo team's Kyla Kelly will participate at the Rodeo All-Star event in Denver, CO on Oct. 4-5.
Kelly will be competing in the barrel racing and breakaway roping. The events are tournament style with each contestant competing in one of two semi-final contests. The top four from each semi-final will advance to the event final. The top two from the final will compete for the grand prize in a shootout style championship performance Saturday night.
"I am very honored to be invited to an event like this and having the ability to compete with some of the best girls in the world in Denver," sophomore Kyla Kelly said. "I am also very thankful they invited me for both the breakaway and the barrel racing."
The first semi-final starts Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. MDT with the second semi-final taking place Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. MDT. The finals and championship rounds will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. MDT.
The opportunity to compete in a pro rodeo is huge for the growth of the rodeo program here at NMJC.
"We are so proud of Kyla and her invitation to compete in this event with some of the best in the rodeo world," women's rodeo head coach Alexa Wilcox said. "She can definitely compete and win at the professional level. Kyla works relentlessly in all of her events and I'm sure that will come through as she competes in Denver. We are proud to have her as a T-Bird and proud to watch her this weekend."
Kelly will be back in action for the T-Birds at the Clarendon College Rodeo Oct. 10-12.
