Gonzalez and Hatley Caught in Crossfire in Go Round 2
The T-Birds took a no time in the second go round of the team roping competition on Tuesday, June 17.
Lyvan Gonzalez and Cason Hatley were called for a crossfire which happens when the heeler throws before the steer has a chance to make a switch and hop in a new direction. The ruling leads to a no time for the run. The run was 4.1 seconds on the stopwatch which would have won the round and got the T-Birds right back in the thick of it for the third run.
"Cason and Lyvan drew a really good steer in round 2 and were able to go for the round win," head men's rodeo coach Stewy Kinley said. "They got called for a crossfire which gave them a no time. So now they're just going to be aggressive on their third steer and try to win the round. They've been roping extremely well so maybe the third round will be the charm."
The third go round for Gonzalez and Hatley is Thursday, June 19 with the duo competing in the perf on ESPN 3/WATCH ESPN starting at 7 p.m. MST. The team is eighth on the shortlist of team ropers on Thursday.
12 teams make it to the CNFR Short Round with the national champion being the top team roping pair with the best four-round average. The final takes place Saturday, June 21 at 7 p.m. MST inside the Ford Wyoming Center and will be live on ESPN 3/WATCH ESPN.
