NMJC (Rodeo) Starts Spring Season in Odessa
The NMJC men's and women's rodeo teams will compete in the first of five spring rodeos this week at the Odessa College Rodeo in Odessa, Texas Feb. 26-28.
The men's team is ranked No. 6 in the Caprock Region Standings and women are ranked No. 7.
NMJC currently has five student-athletes in the top-3 automatic qualifying spots for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY on June 15.
On the men's side, Teagan Taylor-Roukema is leading the Team Roping Heeler standings by 180 points after recording 470 points in fall rodeos. Roukema won the Thunderbird Rodeo in October of 2025.
Cash Trexler is second in the tie down roping with 290 points. Treyden Gonzales is in third place in the same event with 285 points.
"Yes, we're excited to get back on the road and see what our team can do this weekend in Odessa," NMJC men's rodeo head coach Stewy Kinley said. "Our guys have been putting in the work, and I think they'll do great. We're ready to win!"
Now over to the women's side.
Quincy Montoya is leading the women's All-around with 430 points. In November, the sophomore won the Clarendon All-around title after registering 280 points in the rodeo with her finishes in the goats and breakaway.
Madi Stanley earned 180 points in the Breakaway Roping during the fall after winning the Clarendon College Rodeo in November. She is currently in third place for the breakaway roping in the Caprock Region.
"The team is ready to go for Odessa," NMJC women's rodeo head coach Alexa Wilcox said. "We've seen a lot of break throughs in practice the last six weeks and I'm excited for our team to do what they know how to do. We are taking it one run at a time and doing the best on what we draw - the rest will take care of itself."
The events at the Odessa College Rodeo will take place at the Ector County Coliseum. The rodeo will be streamed online on Cowboy Channel+. Click here to find the livestream link.
Tickets can be purchased online here or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. CST and ticket prices are $11 for individuals and $5 for children.
