NMJC (W-Golf) Finishes Runner-up in Waco
The T-Bird women's golf team (+33) finished runner-up to Odessa College (+28) in Waco, Texas on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Thunderbirds shot 303-306 for a 36-hole total of 609 at the Waco River Classic.
The Thunderbirds were ahead following first round action shooting 15-over, which was four strokes in front of the Wranglers.
The T-Birds top performer this week was Wawa Booncharn who went 75-73 to shoot 4-over par and place T-4 at Cottonwood Creek.
Nanami Hayakawa grinded her way through the heat of Monday and Tuesday to shoot 76-75 placing T-8 at 7-over par. Freshman Giuliana Frutos went 75-79 in her 36 holes to shoot 10-over for the tournament and finish T-21.
Hinano Kishida started the tournament with an opening round 5-over 77. The sophomore's final-round 79 earned her 16th place at 12-over par. Olivia Heard was the final contributor to the team score on Tuesday afternoon. Heard shot 77-81 over two rounds to finish T-18 at 14-over par.
Kyleigh McGowen was the top individual performer for the Thunderbirds this week in Waco, Texas. The sophomore shot consecutive 79s finishing T-18 at 14-over par. Sophomore Ashleigh Johnson was 16-over par for the tournament finishing T-21 after firing rounds of 82-78.
Freshman Stefany Crozier tied for 32nd at 23-over after posting rounds of 81-86. Jordyn Cruz shot back-to-back 84s on her way to a 24-over par T-35 finish.
Freshman Zoe Munoz tied for 47th place shooting 93-89 in 36 holes to finish 38-over par at the Waco River Classic. Kiyonna Matthews placed 51st at 43-over par following rounds of 99-98.
The T-Birds will travel next to Ruidoso, NM Sept. 23-24 for the High Country Shootout hosted at The Links at Sierra Blanca.
