Thunderbird (W-Golf) Places 2nd in Hobbs
The T-Bird women's golf team finished runner-up to Odessa College at the USW Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 8.
NMJC shot 36-over for the tournament and was eight shots back of the tournament winner Odessa College at 28-over. NMJC held a two-shot lead over the Wranglers following the first round after shooting an 8-over 296 which was the low round of the tournament.
Hinano Kishida went 74-77 over 36 holes to post 7-over for the tournament and finish runner-up. The sophomore was only behind Ausanee Udkanmtiang of Odessa College who shot 1-under to win by eight shots. Kishida's second place was her sixth top-5 finish of the season.
Wawa Booncharn shot an even-par 72 in her opening round and followed her first round up with a final-round 80. Booncharn finished T-3 at 8-over par on Tuesday. The sophomore's third-place finish was her seventh top 5 of the season.
Sophomore Nanami Hayakawa tied for sixth place shooting 74-81 this week. Hayakawa ended the tournament at 11-over with the finish being her ninth top 10 of the season.
Olivia Heard shot back-to-back 78s to finish at 12-over par at Rockwind Community Links. The sophomore placed T-8 which is her sixth top 10 of the season.
Freshman Giuliana Frutos placed solo 11th as the final member of the team score. Frutos shot 76-82 over the 36 holes to finish at 14-over.
Stefany Crozier was the top individual for the T-Birds on Tuesday. The freshman shot 75-78 to place solo fifth at 9-over. The finish is Crozier's third top ten of the season.
Kyleigh McGowen shot 83-81 to finish at 20-over in a tie for 12th. Ashleigh Johnson also finished T-12 at 20-over following rounds of 85-79. Jordyn Cruz shot 89-82 to come in 14th place at 27-over.
Sophomore Kiyonna Matthews shot 86-90 over 36 holes to place 15th at 32-over. Zoe Munoz shot back-to-back 89s to finish 17th at 34-over.
The Thunderbirds next tournament is the WTC Women's Invite April 21-22 in Snyder, Texas at Sammy Baugh GC.
