T-Bird (W-Golf) Grabs 4th Win, Heard Earns Win No. 3
NMJC women's golf picked up their fourth tournament win of the season Tuesday, April 22 at the Western Texas College Women's Invite in Snyder, Texas.
Sophomore Olivia Heard earned her fourth-career win and third individual victory of the spring this week at par-70 Sammy Baugh GC. Heard opened with an 8-over 78 and closed her final round with a 2-over 72 to finish at 10-over. Heard bested second place by two strokes.
The T-Birds posted 54-over in 36 holes (312-302) to defeat second place North Central Texas College by 79 shots.
Nanami Hayakawa placed fourth this week after shooting 78-76 to finish at 14-over for the tournament. The finish is her seventh top five of the season.
Sophomore Wawa Booncharn shot 79-76 to finish at 15-over and in a tie for fifth place. Booncharn has finished in the top five eight times so far this season.
Hinano Kishida was consistent this week shooting 77-78 to also finish T-5 at 15-over par. Tuesday was the seventh time this season she has placed in the top five at a tournament.
Stefany Crozier rounded out the team score with a T-8 finish. The freshman shot 24-over following rounds of 79-85. Giuliana Frutos was the lone individual for the T-Birds at the tournament. Frutos had a fantastic week shooting 74-79 to post a career-best finish of solo third place at 13-over par.
The win at the WTC Women's Invite is Coach Ferguson's seventh victory of her career.
The T-Birds next tournament is the Southwest District Championship April 28-30 in Weatherford, Texas at Canyon West GC.
