NMJC (W-Golf) Holds 5th, Heard Shoots Lowest Nationals Round in Program History
The T-Bird women's golf team is in fifth place following Round 2 of the 2025 NJCAA DI Women's Golf Championship.
NMJC moved to 40-over for the week after shooting a 14-over team total of 302 on Day 2.
No. 3 Seminole State leads at 12-over par for the tournament. No. 2 Odessa College is in second place at 14-over. No. 1 Daytona State is 31-over and in third place. No. 4 Eastern Florida State moved to fourth place at 39-over.
Napajira Nami Luesattha of Odessa College vaulted into the individual lead after shooting 4-under 68 in Round 2 to take a 3-shot advantage at 2-under par.
Olivia Heard led the Thunderbirds today shooting just the sixth under par round of the tournament with a 1-under 71. The sophomore began her day with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. Heard then went bogey-birdie-bogey on holes 13-15 to drop to even par on the day. She finished the back nine with an even par 36 and turned to the easier front nine.
The front started with four pars and then a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole got the Englishwoman back in red figures at 1-under. Heard closed with five straight pars to be the first T-Bird to shoot under par at nationals in program history. Heard is now in a tie for seventh place at 5-over par.
Hinano Kishida turned in another solid card in Round 2 with a 4-over 76. The sophomore started on the back bogeying holes 12, 14, 17, and 18 with only pars in between to shoot a 4-over 40 in her first nine holes.
The front was steady for Kishida as she made pars on her first four holes and then a bogey on hole 5 and a bounce-back bird on hole 6 kept her even. Kishida finished with three straight pars to shoot even on the front and post a 4-over 76 in Round 2. She moves to T-10 for the tournament at 6-over par.
Nanami Hayakawa was able to shake off her opening-round 82 today as she shot a 3-over 75 to move into a tie for 33rd place at 13-over par. Hayakawa played the back nine at 3-over with bogeys on holes 13, 17, and 18. The front has been the easier of the nines this week and she proved that theory correct on Tuesday with a birdie on hole 3 and a bogey on hole 8 to finish the nine with an even par 36 on her way to posting a 3-over 75.
Giuliana Frutos recorded a 9-over 81 in Round 2 to slot into T-49 at 17-over. The freshman made two pars and seven bogeys in her first nine holes. Frutos went bogey-birdie on holes 2-3 and bogeys on hole 5 and hole 9 had her post a 2-over 38 in her second nine. Frutos finished with a 9-over 81 in Round 2 and is now 17-over for the tournament.
Wawa Booncharn has yet to get it going so far in the tournament. Booncharn was one of the few that posted a better score on the back nine than on the front as she shot a 3-over 39 with bogeys on 11,14, and 17. The front featured bogeys on hole 1, hole 4, and hole 5 with a double on hole 6 and a bogey on hole 7. The sophomore ended on a positive note with a birdie on hole 9 to shoot a 5-over 41 on the front nine and post an 8-over 80. Booncharn is T-57 at 20-over par in 36 holes this week.
Tee times for Round 3 are as follows, Wawa Booncharn will tee off on hole 1 at 10:50 a.m CDT, Giuliana Frutos at 11 a.m. CDT, Nanami Hayakawa at 11:10 a.m. CDT, Hinano Kishida at 11:20 a.m. CDT, and Olivia Heard at 11:30 a.m CDT.
