Thunderbird (W-Golf) Places 6th at Southern Colorado Open
The T-Bird women's golf team finished the Southern Colorado Open in sixth place at 37-over on Monday, March 23.
Host Colorado State-Pueblo shot 12-over to win the tournament. UT Dallas was the runner-up at 17-over. NMJC shot 314-299 over 36 holes to finish in sixth place at the NCAA DII tournament. Lisa Ekberg of Colorado State-Pueblo and Margret Nyamukondiwa of Texas A&M-International tied for the tournament win individually at 1-under par.
Tova Sandren was the top performer this week for NMJC finishing tied for sixth place at 4-over par. Sandren opened her tournament with a 5-over 77. She then shot a final-round 1-under 71 to climb the leaderboard and finish at 4-over.
Sandren was second in the field in par-5 scoring at 5-under par. The finish this week is her fifth top-6 performance of the season.
Sophie Brothwood started her tournament with a 7-over 70 in Round 1. Brothwood turned in a final-round 4-over 76 to finish in a tie for 27th at 11-over. The freshman tied for ninth place at 4-over in par-4 scoring at the tournament.
Giuliana Frutos shot a 6-over 78 in Round 1 of the Southern Colorado Open. Frutos was one shot better in the final round as she recorded a 5-over 77 to finish T-27 at 11-over.
Freshman Megan Dawson shot a 10-over 82 in her first round in Pueblo, Colo. Dawson had it rolling in her final round as she entered her 17th hole of the day at 1-over. A double moved her to 3-over for the day and with a 75 in Round 2 she ended her tournament T-35 at 13-over.
Ella Cornwell began her tournament with an 8-over 80 in Round 1. The freshman fired a 5-over 77 in the final round to finish T-35 at 13-over.
The Thunderbirds next event is the Southwest District Preview in Weatherford, Texas March 30-31 at Canyon West GC.
