NMJC (W-Golf) Finishes 7th in Arizona
The T-Birds finished in seventh place at the WT Desert Invite on Tuesday, April 7.
Host West Texas A&M shot 14-over to win the NCAA DII tournament. Colorado State-Pueblo tied for second with Angelo State to shoot 26-over. NMJC shot 304-314 in 36 holes to finish seventh at 42-over. Lily Nelson of Henderson State won the individual title at 3-under par.
Freshman Sophie Brothwood was the top performer at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon. She shot a 3-over 75 in Round 1. Round 2 saw the Shropshire, England native shoot a 5-over 77 to finish T-18 at 8-over. Brothwood was tied for second in the field in pars with 27.
Megan Dawson shot back-to-back 5-over 77s to finish at 10-over. The freshman tied for 24th place at the WT Desert Invite.
Freshman Tova Sandren opened her first round with a 1-over 73. The second round played tougher with Sandren shooting an 11-over 83. The Swede finished tied for 30th place at 12-over.
Giuliana Frutos finished T-47 this week in Tucson, Ariz., shooting 17-over par. Frutos had a tough first round recording a 12-over 84. Her final round was a big improvement that saw the Asuncion, Paraguay native shoot a 5-over 77.
Ella Cornwell was the final member of the team score for the T-Birds. The freshman shot a 7-over 79 in her first round and an 11-over 83 in the final round. Cornwell ended the tournament T-49 at 18-over par.
The Thunderbirds next event is the WTC Invite in Snyder, Texas April 20-21 at Sammy Baugh GC.
