No. 4 Lady T-Birds qualify four for NJCAAs at Red Raider Open
Five NMJC athletes improve national qualifying times at Lubbock event
LUBBOCK, Texas — The fourth-ranked New Mexico Junior College women's track and field team set four new national qualifying marks and improved on five others during the Red Raider Open on Friday at the campus of Texas Tech.
NMJC's Breain Lewis (25.31) and Tiffany Garcia (25.42) both qualified for nationals in the 200-meter dash while Silvia Sosa (3:06.33) and Naomi Tanui (3:09.27) qualified in the 1,000.
Improving their national qualifying marks for NMJC were: Mayah Edwards (60 - 7.11 for 55 meters), Marquetta Mapps (200 - 25.20), Garcia (400 - 56.64), Jahneya Mitchell (400 - 56.97) and Quadaisha Newkirk (600 - 1:25.52 for 600 yards).
NMJC next competes at the NJCAA Indoor Championships March 6-7 in Albuquerque.
