NMJC's Grange, Shannon set school records at Texas Relays
Lady T-Birds get one new qualifier at event
AUSTIN, Texas — The New Mexico Junior College women's track team's Gleneve Grange and Kelsey Shannon each set school records at the Texas Relays this weekend as the Lady Thunderbirds qualified one more athlete for nationals and improved three more national qualifying marks.
Grange in the discus had a toss of 172 feet to set the school record and improve her national qualifying mark. The mark was good enough for seventh in the top class at an event that had teams from all levels (including numerous NCAA Division I schools).
Shannon set a school record in the high jump with a leap of 5-9 3/4.
Kayelle Clarke qualified for the NJCAA nationals in the 100 with a time of 11.98 seconds while the 4x400 team of Jahneya Mitchell, Quadaisha Newkirk, Ja'lanna Williams and Cheyenne Hoerr (3:44.35) and the 4x800 team of Silvia Sosa, Newkirk, Williams and Mitchell (9:26.90) improved their national qualifying marks.
The Lady T-Birds compete at the Texas Tech Open starting Friday in Lubbock.
