Coombs and Gitahi Set School Records; T-Birds hit 11 new National Qualifying Marks in 2nd meet of the Year
The T-Birds were once again led by Latavia Coombs and Esther Gitahi.
The T-Birds were once again led by Latavia Coombs and Esther Gitahi. Coombs qualified for nationals in the triple jump with a leap of 42'2 ¾". This distance set a new school record and sets her number one in the NJCAA. She was not done setting records as she ran a blazing 8.66 in the 60M Hurdles giving her an improved national qualifier and breaking one of the oldest NMJC school records.
Gitahi continued her outstanding freshman year as she won the 3000M Run in a school record time of 9:36.69. This time also sets her number one in the NJCAA by over one minute.
Coombs was not the only one to shine in the triple jump as the T-Birds had four athletes in the finals and all four qualified for nationals. They now set 1, 3, 4 and 5 in the NJCAA rankings.
Also running well on the Track was Krystal Sparling. Sparling qualified for nationals in the 60M running a time of 7.47 and ran an improved national qualifying time of 24.15 in the 200M
