NMJC (W-T&F) Qualifies 8 in Season Opener
The NMJC women's track and field team started the 2026 indoor season Jan. 16-17 at the Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
The women finished the meet with eight national qualifying standards. The Thunderbirds will send those athletes to the 2026 NJCAA Indoor T&F Championships in Topeka, Kan., March 6-7.
Amal Kachouri was the top performer for the Thunderbirds this weekend. The sophomore nationally qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:15.86. The finish ranks No. 2 in the NJCAA for the 800m this year.
Ines Mrabet competed in her first race since Septemeber after being sidelined most of the cross country season with an injury. The Tunis, Tunisia native ran in the 3000m where she crossed the line in 10:29.35 to rank No. 8 in the NJCAA.
The track side had a pair of sprinters qualify for nationals in the 60m. Hajar Eddaou ran a 7.60 to move her into the No. 9 slot in the NJCAA. Felicia Awudi was slightly behind Eddaou, running a 7.64 to rank No. 12 in JUCO.
Now over to the field side.
Two-time national champion Tiana Petrova picked up where she left off last year in the high jump. The sophomore met the national standard with a 1.66m leap. The clearance is currently No. 2 in JUCO for the event.
Athilia Pryce shattered her personal best in the weight throw by .85m with a toss of 16.48m. The throw is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event.
Jumper Jastin Guzman recorded an 11.96m triple jump to punch her ticket to nationals. The mark is No. 3 in the NJCAA for the event.
Freshman Tatiana Bedoya cleared 3.61m in the pole vault to meet the national standard. The Igbague, Colombia native is No. 3 in the pole vault for JUCO.
The T-Birds next meet will be Jan. 23-24 in College Station, Texas at the Ted Nelson Invite.
