NMJC (W-T&F) Ranks No. 4, Achieves 6 New National Standards
The Thunderbird women's track and field team competed Jan. 23-24 at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas.
The women ended the meet with six new national qualifying standards and one improved qualifier.
Thrower Athilia Pryce led the Thunderbirds this weekend as the lone improved qualifier in the weight throw. The sophomore threw a personal-best 16.81m which was .33m further than last meet. The toss is currently ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event.
Gabriella Tcheukam also competed in the weight throw at Texas A&M as she nationally qualified with a throw of 15.38m. The toss is No. 6 in the NJCAA. Rounding out the field events was jumper Sofia Mosquera Rodriquez. The sophomore met the national mark with a leap of 11.91m in the triple jump. She moves into the No. 5 slot in the NJCAA for the event.
A pair of 200m runners qualified for nationals this weekend with their performance. Nalicia Glen was the top sprinter running a 24.70 in the event to rank No. 7 in the NJCAA. Hajar Eddaou was not far behind her teammate Glen as she ran a 24.77. The time ranks No. 11 in the NJCAA for the 200m.
Yididiya Bifa made her indoor track debut this week in the mile. The sophomore ran a 5:09.93 in the race to hit the national standard. Bifa is No. 8 in the NJCAA for the event.
The distance medley relay squad of Yididiya Bifa, Motlatsi Rante, Elsa Gueret, and Ines Mrabet ran a 12:26.35 to nationally qualify as the No. 2 squad in the NJCAA.
NMJC begins the year at No. 4 in the USTFCCCA Track & Field Women's Indoor Rating Index.
The Thunderbirds next meet is Feb. 6-7 in Albuquerque, NM at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
