Pryce Qualfies in 2 Events in El Paso
The Thunderbirds started the outdoor track & field season in El Paso, Texas at the Miners Invitational March 20-21.
The women produced three national qualifying marks at UTEP.
Athilia Pryce crossed the national standard in both the hammer throw and the discus. She threw 52.54m in the hammer and 43.27m in the discus. Alejandra Sanchez competed for the first time in a Thunderbird uniform Friday. The Hobbs, NM local nationally qualified in the javelin with a throw of 38.38m.
The men compiled three national qualifying marks and one school record. Marc Delin was the top performer this week setting a new school record in the discus with a throw of 59.93m. Delin shattered Joao Dalandrea's previous 2025 school record of 55.57m by 4.36m.
Thrower Samuel Puustinen qualified for nationals with a 56.01m hammer throw. LeBron James competed in his first event of 2026 nationally qualifying in the javelin with a 68.68m mark.
The T-Birds next meet is Thursday, March 26 in Lubbock, Texas at the Masked Rider Open.
