Suarez Breaks 200m School Record in Albuquerque
The T-Bird women's track & field team competed at the Don Kirby Twilight in Albuquerque, NM on April 24.
The Thunderbirds had four new individual national qualifiers, three improved qualifiers, and one school record broken.
Freshman Gabriela Anahi Suarez set the new school record in the 200m with a time of 23.11 on Friday. Suarez broke Kayelle Clarke's 2015 200m record by .01 seconds at the Don Kirby Twilight. The improved national qualifying time is No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event.
Suarez was also an improved qualifier by .30 seconds in the 100m where she ran an 11.36 in the race. She is No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event.
Charissa December was a national qualifier in 400m with a time of 55.30. Fatima Chefaig nationally qualified in the 400mH with a finish of 1:01.80.
Distance runners Ines Mrabet and Hadil Chiha were both national qualifiers in the 1500m. Mrabet met the standard with a 4:59.04 and Chiha ran a 5:00.28 to qualify.
The field side was led by Alejandra Sanchez who continues to improve in the javelin. She improved on her previous national mark by 1.37m with a 43.51m throw. She is ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA for the event.
The T-Birds next meet is Thursday, April 30 in Lubbock, Texas at the Corky Shootout.
