Bifa Breaks 5000m Record, Kachouri Moves to No. 1 in 800m
The NMJC women's track & field team competed at the Corky Shootout in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday, April 30.
The T-Birds had three new individual national qualifiers, three improved qualifiers, and one school record broken.
Yididiya Bifa broke the 5000m school record with a time of 17:20.17 on Thursday. The time nationally qualified her in the event and is No. 8 in the NJCAA. Bifa broke Esther Gitahi's school record of 17:28.44 that was set in 2017.
Sophomore Amal Kachouri moved into the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA for the 800m with a finish of 2:07.55. She improved on previous national standard by .57 seconds. Lindsey Lopes had a great race, improving on her previous national standard by 3.68 seconds with a finish of 2:11.79. The time is No. 8 in the NJCAA for the event.
Ines Mrabet the other competitor in the 5000m this week and ran a 17:41.89 to improve on her previous qualifying time by 43.83 seconds. She is ranked No. 11 in the NJCAA for the event.
Hajar Eddaou was a national qualifier in the 200m with a finish of 24.27. Freshman Nour Bouzidi met the national standard in the 1500m with a finish of 4:53.11.
The T-Birds next meet is the NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in Hobbs, NM at Ross Black Track May 14-16.
