The New Mexico Junior College volleyball team extended their winning streak to five matches Friday with wins over Eastern Florida State and Temple College. The Thunderbirds are 5-1 and have won 14 consecutive sets over the five-match span.
Freshman outside hitter Iva Popovic led the way for NMJC with 13 kills and 15 digs in the (25-20, 25-20, 25-22) three-set victory over Eastern Florida State.
The T-Birds were able to overcome a multitude of serving errors in the first set to take down the Titans. Maggie Machado continues to be a reliable returner for the T-Birds this season as she notched 13 kills and 10 digs in match one.
Libero Luiza Arsufi added 14 digs, while setter Lacie Schooley tallied 29 assists.
The Thunderbirds continued their strong play into match two against Temple College. The T-Birds took care of business in convincing fashion (25-10, 25-20, 25-23).
Iva Popovic had a match-high 12 kills with eight digs. Popovic has a team leading 80 kills over the span of her first six games in a Thunderbird uniform.
Gaby Arias and Maggie Machado had seven kills apiece with Machado adding seven digs against the Leopards. Libero Luiza Arsufi led the team with a game-high 12 digs, while setter Lacie Schooley added 19 assists in the victory.
