No. 19 NMJC handled Western Texas College in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-21).
The Thunderbirds stifled the Westerners defense with the play of outside hitter Iva Popovic. Popovic finished the afternoon with 21 kills. Gaby Arias added seven kills, while Karielys Maldonado chipped in five kills of her own.
Libero Luiza Arsufi recorded 23 digs and setter Lacie Schooley posted 37 assists in the win.
The three-set match was a comfortable victory for the T-Birds. NMJC was able to spread out the playing time with 10 of the 11 Thunderbirds playing in the match.
The T-Birds move to 2-2 in conference and 14-6 on the year. NMJC will play Clarendon College Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Hobbs at 6 p.m. MDT.
