Clarendon Knocks off NMJC (VB)
NMJC fell to Clarendon College in straight sets on the road Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Clarendon started the first set with a substantial lead in front 19-12. NMJC mounted a comeback and tied the score up at 23 apiece. A service error by Zaira Romero and a block by the Bulldogs earned Clarendon a 25-23 win in Set 1.
The T-Birds trailed the Bulldogs 22-18 in the second set. NMJC cut the lead to 24-23 but a shot down the line went the way of Clarendon as they took Set 2 by a score of 25-23.
Clarendon went on to win the third set 25-19 and sweep the T-Birds.
Freshman Gabriela Rebolledo led the Thunderbirds with 10 kills and four blocks. Noemi Marinho registered her eighth double-double of the season posting 19 assists and 10 digs. Outside hitter Leticia Neves added nine kills.
Libero Lauren Shiplet ended the night with 21 digs. Middle Duda Tonella recorded four blocks.
The win by the Bulldogs is the first time in program history they have defeated the T-Birds.
The Thunderbirds drop to 13-14 (4-7) on the year and will play Midland College on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM.
