The T-Birds won both their matches against Western Nebraska and Laramie County on Friday, Sept. 12.
Match 1
NMJC volleyball took down Western Nebraska CC Friday in four sets.
The T-Birds dropped the first set 25-20 to the Cougars. They flipped that loss in their favor in Set 2 to win 25-20. NMJC defeated WNCC in the third set 25-19 and won the fourth set and the match 25-14.
Outside Gabriela Rebolledo recorded a career-high 10 kills. Noemi Marinho posted her fourth double-double with 22 assists and 11 digs. Outside hitter Leticia Neves registered 16 kills and 12 digs to notch her third double-double of the season.
Libero Lauren Shiplet finished with 10 digs and Zuzanna Zalewska added 16 digs.
Sophomore Deniz Akgul recorded 13 kills and seven digs. Setter Kawena Crowell added 22 assists.
Match 2
The T-Birds outlasted Laramie County in five sets to sweep the Friday series 2-0.
The Thunderbirds won the first set 25-16 but dropped the second set 25-21. The T-Birds took some extra time in the third set to win 27-25. Laramie forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory in the fourth. In the fifth set, The T-Birds snuck past Golden Eagles 15-13 to win the match.
Outside hitter Deniz Akgul set a career high in kills with 25 which is third all-time for most kills in a match. Leticia Neves registered a double-double with 17 kills and 20 digs. It is her fourth double-double this season.
Freshman setter Noemi Marinho recorded 22 assists. Libero Zuzanna Zalewska finished with 21 digs, while defensive specialist Lauren Shiplet added 11 digs.
Middle blocker Duda Tonella ended the match with six blocks. Setter Kawena Crowell finished with 22 assists and six digs.
The Thunderbirds will face Casper College Saturday, Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m. MST in Sterling, CO.
