Arizona Western College
The T-Birds finished the CSN wood bat tournament with an 11-5 loss to Arizona Western College on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Callan Warren started for the T-Birds on the mound but made his presence known in the first inning with an RBI single to score Jeter Battles and give the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead.
Warren did not have the same positive fate on the mound. He walked four and gave up four runs in only 1.1 innings of play. The Matadors scored seven runs in the second inning and two more in the third inning to grab a 9-1 lead.
NMJC did battle back some in the next few innings, scoring one run in the fifth and seventh and two more runs in the eighth inning off a Warren 2-run homer. NMJC fell by six runs, 11-5, in the final game in Henderson, Nevada.
Callan Warren was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored, and a homer. Cooper Popejoy drove in a run and Peyton Pierce was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth.
Andrew Hart and Marcos Colon came in relief pitching an inning each and striking out two apiece.
NMJC recorded nine hits in the loss. The T-Birds end their road trip with a 1-3 record.
