T-Bird (BSB) Defeats Bulldogs at Home

The T-Birds earned two wins over Clarendon College on Friday, April 17.

Game 1

The Thunderbirds came from behind in Game 1 against Clarendon to win 11-6 in seven innings.

The Bulldogs were strong out the gate, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. T-Bird starting pitcher Hersy Felix lasted just 2/3 of an inning allowing three hits and four earned runs. 

Jesus Mejias hit a single that scored two in the bottom of the first inning to cut the deficit in half and make it 4-2 Clarendon. The next inning Javier Diaz recorded an RBI single that scored Peyton Pierce. Jeremy Cuevas scored the tying run on a throwing error during the same play. The score remained tied at 4-4 after two innings of play.

Clarendon regained the lead 5-4 on an error in the top of the third inning. Mejias evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homer.

Peyton Pierce gave NMJC the lead, 6-5, with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The T-Birds went on to score five more runs in the inning to make the score 11-5 NMJC.

Clarendon added a run in the seventh as the T-Birds took down the Bulldogs 11-6 in Game 1.

First baseman Mekhi Brewer went 2-for-4 with a homer, a triple, and two RBIs. Javier Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Jesus Mejias was 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Jace Sanchez-Reynolds came in relief in the first inning and went 6.1 innings striking out seven while allowing four hits and two runs. He moves to 3-1 on the year. 

Game 2

Tobias Imming threw a complete-game shutout in an 11-0 win over Clarendon College in Game 2.

Marvin Hill got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff home run. Mekhi Brewer hit a 3-run homer later in the inning to push NMJC ahead 4-0. An RBI double in the second inning by Javier Diaz gave the T-Birds a 5-0 lead. Marvin Hill scored on an error later in the frame to make the score 6-0.

Casen Savage added a homer in the third inning to push the lead to 7-0. A 2-run home run in the fourth inning by Brewer marked the second time he went yard in the game. Zach Altamura came in and pinch hit for Peyton Pierce and registered his first career home run later in the inning scoring two. The T-Birds ended the fourth inning ahead 11-0.

Imming went 1-2-3 in the fifth inning to run rule the Bulldogs and get the Friday sweep.  

Imming allowed two hits and struck out four batters in five shutout innings of work. First baseman Mekhi Brewer led the offense with five RBIs in the game and two home runs.
