The Thunderbirds throttled Clarendon Saturday, April 18 to sweep the four-game series.
Game 3
The T-Birds run ruled Clarendon College in Game 3 Saturday afternoon 10-0.
Javier Diaz helped the T-Birds strike first in the third inning with a double to right field, scoring Jeremy Cuevas. Diaz scored on a passed ball to make the score 2-0 after three innings.
Diaz's great day continued with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning. The sophomore unloaded into left field for a grand slam to push the lead to 6-0. An RBI single by Cuevas and a sac fly from Marvin Hill made the score 8-0 T-Birds after five innings.
Casen Savage ended the game in run rule fashion with a 2-run homer to defeat the Bulldogs 10-0 in six innings.
DH Javier Diaz had a huge day driving in five runs on a perfect 4-for-4 batting. Center fielder Casen Savage was also 4-for-4 on the day with two RBIs and three runs scored. Third baseman Jeremy Cuevas went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Brandon Stewart was impressive Saturday going 5.1 innings allowing five hits, no runs, and striking out a career-high 10 batters.
Game 4
The T-Birds swept the Bulldogs this week following a 15-0 win in Game 4.
NMJC scored three runs in the first, a run in the second, four runs in the third inning, and seven runs in the fourth inning. The T-Birds shut out Clarendon 36-0 over the last three games.
Right fielder Roman Trinidad went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Second baseman Jesus Mejias was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
DH Javier Diaz went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Pinch hitter Aubrey Wells Peterson singled to center to score two runs in his lone at bat of the night.
The Thunderbirds move to solo fourth place in the WJCAC standings at 29-18 (15-13).
They are one game ahead of Amarillo College and sit behind NMMI at 34-14 (18-10), second place Odessa 31-14 (20-8), and first place 42-4 (27-1).
The T-Birds will play their final home series of the season against Frank Phillips College April 24-25. NMJC will recognize the sophomores on the team prior to first pitch of Saturday's doubleheader.
