Hobbs, NEW MEXICO (October 30, 2015) -
The New Mexico Junior College Men's Basketball team opened up the Brian Lohrey era with a 61-58 win over Trinidad State Junior College in the day one nightcap at the 5th Annual Tate Branch Dodge Classic at Caster Activity Center.
The Thunderbirds were led by Sophomore Randy Haynes, as he poured in a game high 18 to lead three Thunderbirds in double digit scoring. Fellow sophomores, Jalin Hart (13 points) and Tyler Blount (12 points) used their experience to carry the scoring load. The sophomore trio also combined for seven of the teams ten assists.
Defensively, the Thunderbirds had ten steals and created 22 Trojan turnovers while also out rebounding them 30-29. The difference in the game was the Thunderbird reserves outscoring the Trojan reserves 25-1.
Next up for the Thunderbirds will be a talented Western Oklahoma State College team on Halloween night at 7:00 P.M. Western Oklahoma defeated New Mexico Military 92-84.
