Hobbs, NEW MEXICO
The New Mexico Junior College Men's Basketball team overcame a sluggish first half and poor shooting from behind the arc to defeat Frank Phillips 74-71 in OT.
Randy Haynes stole the show as he turned in a game and career high 37 points, four rebounds and three steals. Not to be outdone, Devin Wyatt turned in a career high 18 points and five rebounds. Both Haynes and Wyatt turned in highlight reel dunks to keep the crowd in the game and give the Thunderbirds the momentum needed to pick up the win.
The Thunderbirds were outrebounded 41-28, a recipe for disaster but the defense picked up the slack creating 26 Plainsmen turnovers.
The Thunderbirds will take to the road on Monday, January 25th as they head to Big Spring, TX to take on the Howard Hawks. Howard is 2-6 in WJCAC play.
