NMJC (MBB) Falls to No. 7 Midland
The No. 22 Thunderbirds fell 87-78 to No. 7 Midland on Thursday, Jan. 22.
The loss is the first defeat at home for NMJC in 364 days. Midland's wire-to-wire victory was the second straight ranked conference loss for NMJC. The T-Birds fell earlier in the week to No. 12 South Plains.
The flow of the game was a struggle with 31 fouls called in the first half and 34 fouls in the second half. The entire game took two hours and four minutes.
Five Thunderbirds finished in double figures. Forward Marquan Harris had a career day for the T-Birds off the bench. Harris knocked down a career-high three triples on his way to a career-high 13 points.
Sophomore guard Michael Mackey scored a season-high 17 points. Kenny Fields pitched in 10 points. 50 of the team's 78 points came from off the bench.
Grigorije Avramovic ended the night with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists. RJ Nance was the final player in double figures with 10 points and five assists. Garrison Phelps finished with a career-high 12 rebounds in the nine-point loss.
The T-Birds shot 21-for-60 (35%) from the field, 10-of-34 (29.4%) from the 3-point line, and 26-of-39 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
The No. 22 Thunderbirds fall to 15-4 (2-3) on the year and will face Frank Phillips in Borger, Texas Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. CST.
