Kyntola Finishes T-3 at the Hrnciar
Samu Kyntola's career-best week led NMJC to a T-6 finish at The Hrnciar.
Kyntola shot an opening-round 6-under 66 which was tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament. The freshman followed up his next 36 holes with a 1-over 73 and an even-par 72 to shoot 5-under and finish T-3. The Finn was tied for third in birdies with 14 and tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 5-under.
University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) won the tournament at 15-under as the only team under par. The T-Birds were 35 shots back in a tie for sixth at 20-over. Nizar Bourehim of UTPB won the tournament individually after finishing at 10-under.
Sophomore Oliver Ruutu finished T-18 at the Territory Golf and CC. Ruutu shot 73-72-75 in 54 holes to post 4-over. He tied for sixth in the field in pars with 36.
Nick Friedrichsen shot 75-74-78 in his return to his home state of Oklahoma. The sophomore from Bixby, Okla., finished T-47 at 11-over par.
Freshman Severi Varis opened his tournament with a 79 and then shot back-to-back 77s to place T-60 at 17-over. The final member of the team score was freshman Tristan Kolasinski. He started 77-72 before turning in a disappointing 85 to shoot 18-over and finish T-62.
Alfie Mellor shot 79-70-77 to place T-42 at 10-over par individually. Zach Ewing first two rounds were solid as he went 75-70 but a final-round 85 put a sour taste into his tournament. The sophomore transfer finished T-55 at 14-over.
The T-Birds next competition will be at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan., at the NJCAA National Preview Oct. 30-31.
