T-Birds (M-Golf) Places 5th in Midland
The T-Birds competed in their second match of the spring in Midland, Texas at the TankLogix & tall City Exploration Collegiate where they finished in sixth place on Tuesday, March 10.
Odessa College won the 54-hole tournament with a score of 3-under par. Milan Abrieu of Odessa College won the tournament individually after shooting 3-under par in 54 holes (70-67-73).
The T-Birds were 24 shots behind the Wranglers shooting 18-over (285-286-300) this week.
Tristan Kolasinski had his second straight top-5 finish this season with a solo fourth. The freshman shot 72-68-72 to finish at 1-under this week in Midland.
Oliver Ruutu recorded his fifth top-15 finish and third top-10 of the season with his T-7 finish at Green Tree CC. The sophomore recorded a 1-under 70 in his first round and a 1-over 72 score in Round 2. Ruutu matched his second round score in the final round with another 72. He ended the tournament at 1-over.
Alfie Mellor started his first two rounds with a pair of 1-over 72s. The sophomore shot a 4-over 75 in the third round to finish tied for 35th at 6-over.
Freshman Riley Apodaca started the tournament well with an even-par 71 in his opening round. The next two rounds did not go to plan with Apodaca making just one birdie over his next 36 holes shooting 78-81 to record a 17-over 66th-place finish.
Nick Friedrichsen was the last member of the team score shooting 78-74-83 in 54 holes of play. The sophomore finished Tuesday in 71st place at 22-over.
Zachary Ewing was the top individual for the T-Birds shooting 74-72-72 to finish the week tied for 28th place at 5-over.
Jan Porchet went 76-75-75 to post 13-over in a tie for 56th place. Severi Varis also was tied for 56th place at 13-over after shooting 73-76-77 in 54 holes.
The Thunderbirds next event is the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas March 23-24 at the Wichita Falls CC.
