MJC (M-T&F) Qualifies 7 at Jarvis Scott Invite
The NMJC men's track and field team competed Feb. 13-14 at the Jarvis Scott Invite in Lubbock, Texas.
The men finished the meet with five new national qualifying standards, two improved qualifiers, and two relay qualifiers.
Benjamin Nsiah headlined the T-Birds on the track this week with his performance in the 400m. The sophomore sprinter, who has dealt with injuries during indoor, sped his way to a 46.45 in his season opener for the event. The Sunyani, Ghana native is ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA for the 400m.
Freshman Aaron Jerry was the second of three qualifiers in the 400m. Jerry ran a 47.03 to improve on his previous qualifying time by .97 seconds. The finish is No. 14 in the NJCAA for the event.
Raheim Scott made his indoor debut for his sophomore semester running a 47.19 to come in at No. 16 in the NJCAA for the event.
Alexandre Fablet qualified for nationals in the 3000m with a finish of 8:30.36. The time ranks No. 14 in the NJCAA for the event. Adolf Kauba ran an 1:11.73 in the 600Y to improve on his previous qualifying time by .18 seconds for the conversion to 600m.
Jehiel Smikle will make his first appearance at nationals in the 60mH after qualifying with a time of 8.15m. The finish is ranked No. 17 in the NJCAA for the event. The T-Birds added one national qualifier in the throws events with Marc Delin. The freshman threw 15.86m in the weight throw to rank No. 12 in the event for JUCO.
The Thunderbirds qualified two relay teams in Lubbock this weekend. The mile relay squad of Aaron Jerry, Johnny Bai, Benjamin Nsiah, and Adolf Kauba ran a 3:09.79 to qualify for nationals and rank No. 6 overall.
The quartet of Elmehdi Bouchouata, Luiz Santos, Erwan Darrieulat, and Killian LeBourhis ran a 10:10.09 in the distance medley relay to sit No. 6 in the NJCAA for the event.

The T-Birds next meet is Saturday, Feb. 21 in Levelland, Texas at the Last Chance Qualifier. The meet is the last opportunity for the T-Birds to qualify athletes for NJCAA Indoor T&F Nationals which is set to take place March 6-7 at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
