No. 7 Thunderbirds cruise past Frank Phillips
Borger, TEXAS
The No. 7 New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team continued it's winning ways increasing their win streak 22 with an 85-44 road victory over Frank Phillips College. The win increased NMJC's record to 26-2 and 13-0 in the WJCAC
Freshman Shaniya Mitchell poured in 22 points with an efficient effort from the floor going 10-for-13 and knocking down both her freethrow attempts while collecting a game high eight rebounds.
Daiane Machado and Ashley Perez also scored in double figures with 14 and 12 points respectively. Machado also turned in a season high five assists and Perez added four from her point guard position.
The Thunbderbirds held the Plainsmen to 38% shooting from field and outrebounded them 32-13.
NMJC will close out the regular season on Thursday night against the Howard Hawks. Howard comes into the game in a must win situation to secure a Region V tournament bid. With it is the last regular season game of the year, the sophomores will be honored between games. Tip is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. MST.
