Mitchell & Machado lead Tbirds over Temple in quarterfinals of Region V tournament
Brownwood, TEXAS
Playing just their third game without the services of injured point guard Alana da Silva, the New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team relied heavily on the efforts of Shaniya Mitchell and Daiane Machado to down the Temple College Leopards 58-43.
Mitchell turned in her third career double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five steals while Machado also scored 13 points grabbing five rebounds and collecting two steals of her own.
Sophomore sharpshooter Blair Richmond came in off the bench and added 11 points going 3-for-5 from behind the arc. Camille Mills started in place of the injured da Silva and grabbed nine boards and handed our five assists.
The Thunderbirds will play Odessa College tomorrow who knocked off Hill College 68-62 earlier in the day. This will be the third time the teams have matched up this season with the Thunderbirds defeating the Wranglers both times. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 P.M. MST.
