Thunderbirds advance to Region V finals
Brownwood, TEXAS
Survive and advance. That's what the New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team did tonight as they beat the Odessa College Wranglers for the third time this season 45-33.
In a game as ugly as the score would indicate, the Thunderbirds used smothering defense to hold the Wranglers to a season low 33 points. At halftime, Odessa had more free-throws (7) than field goals (5).
Sophomore guard Camille Mills led the Thunderbirds in scoring as she chipped in 12 points. Blair Richmond also came in off the bench to add 10 as she knocked down 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc.
The Thunderbirds advance to their third consecutive title game to face conference foe Midland College. The Chaps defeated Collin County 61-58 earlier in the day. NMJC defeated Midland twice already this season and will look for their fourth consecutive win over Midland dating back to last seasons semifinal Region V Tournament win at the buzzer. The final will begin at 3:30 P.M. MST.
