T-Birds Fall to Midland Chaparrals Making Them 1-1 In Conference Play

The T-Birds played the Midland Chaparrals at the Langford Chaparral Center tonight for another conference matchup. The T-Birds lost 59-65.
The Chaps kicked the game off with a 4-0 lead on the T-Birds three minutes into the first quarter. That was the largest and only lead the Chaps had on the T-Birds in the first half as Jada Miller knocked in three 3-pointers, putting the T-Birds on top 15-11 by the end of the first quarter.
The T-Birds maintained that lead throughout the second quarter with an additional 6 points by Cabria Lewis and another 3-pointer from Jada Miller. The team went into halftime ahead of the Chaps 37-23.
Top scorers for the T-Birds in the first half were sophomore's Jada Miller with 12 points and 2 steals, Cabria Lewis with 8 points and 3 assists, and Delma Zita with 6 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds.
It was a close second half for the T-Birds. Bella Green and Makayla Escue from the Chaps put up 29 points combined within the half, allowing the Chaps to shorten the T-Bird lead. The Chaps made a 3-point shot with less than 2 minutes left to tie the game 57-57. The T-Birds fell to the Chaps 59-65 and are now 1-1 in conference play.
Other T-Birds scoring double digits against the Chaps were sophomore Precious Cowan and freshman Danna Grenald with 10 points each.
The T-Birds will play another conference game on Saturday, January 6th, at 2PM MST in Caster Activity Center against Western TX.
